What’s important when buying new tires?

In the March 18th post we talked about when to buy new tires, so this month we’ll touch on what’s important when buying new tires.  There are around 25 different components that make up a tire.  From the inner liner that keeps the form and holds in the air, to the fabric and steel belts that give it strength, these are all things to take into consideration when buying new tires.

There are different tires for a variety of driving conditions. When considering what type of tire to purchase for your vehicle, look at your current tire.  Reminisce if you will on the type of drive it had.  Did you enjoy the ride, how did they handle in varying driving conditions?  If you enjoyed the ride and you were satisfied with the overall performance you may consider sticking with the same type of tire.

When budgeting for new tires it helps to do your research.  Knowing what you can live without and what you absolutely have to have in a new tire makes all the difference and could save you money.  Take your driving preference or habits if you will, when buying new tires.  When talking to your Bowen Representative, tell them how you drive.  Note that every tire has a balance of ride quality, road noise suppression, fuel economy, tread wear, load capacity and cost of the tire.  The representative will be able to help you pick the right tire for your specific need.

It’s important to have matching sets of tires.  It may be temping to replace just the tire that is worn.  If there is just one tire that is worn, this may be a sign of another underlying problem, such as an unbalanced tire, or alignment issues.  Tires are designed to work together.  This proper maintenance, such as rotating and balancing this will help tread longevity and give you better ride throughout the life of your tires.  If you have different types of tires on your vehicle, this will give poor ride quality, uneven tread wear and can cause alignment and suspension issues.

Take these tips into consideration and ask questions.  It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the amount of information about tires.  Break down what you want out of your drive and tell technician about what you except and we’ll get the tire that fits your needs!
