What is your Tire Pressure Monitoring System going for you?

Tire Pressure Monitor Systems and how they can help save you money!

We've all been there, it’s a cold morning and you car dashboard light up like a Christmas Tree, and one light stays on, odds are, it’s you Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)!  When the weather is cold, your tire pressure can vary.  Usually the pressure drops about 1 pound per square inch (psi) per 10 degrees drop in temperature.  We do recommend checking your pressure regularly.  But thanks to the TPMS, it helps keeps an eye on things.

The first TPMS was introduced in Europe in 1986 with the Porsche 959.  Fast forward to today and now it’s Federal Law that all passenger vehicles have the TPMS installed in them at time of manufacturing as of 2007.  Tire naturally lose air, in a given year a tire can lose up to 10% of it’s initial pressure, that’s any where from 3 to 9 psi.  This air loss is even when the tire is typical new tire mounted properly.  Even more reasons to regularly check you tires pressure and do a visual check for any uneven wear.

There are many benefits to having a TPMS in you vehicle.

If tire pressure is within the manufacture recommended psi, this will help maximize tire life saving money and time in the shop.

Improved Safety: When times are under-inflated you lose stability and handling.  The recommended tire pressure helps with breaking and provides a greater safety for the driver, the load and others on the road.

Environmental efficiency: According to the Department of Transportation, under-inflated tires release 57.5 billion pounds of unnecessary carbon-monoxide pollutants into the atmosphere each year in the United States alone.

So the next time your TPMS light comes on, it might worth your time to give it a second thought and check out the you pressure, you could end up saving more than just time and money!
