Why Tire Tread Separates

Have you ever have a pet go nuts when you leave the house? Well that’s kind of what happens when tire treat separates. The tire goes nuts!  You may not have to keep an eye on your tires as much as you do your pet dog with separation anxiety, but you should keep an eye on your tread.  There are a number of different reasons a tire’s tread separates, and it’s not because they just can’t work out their differences.

Manufacture defects happen, at some point in the chemical process the tread and the steel belts, let’s just say they didn’t become friends and it’s not going to end well.  Some of the signs that you will notice first are some unusual road noise that wasn’t there before.  Before long, you’re going to have trouble keeping the tires balanced.  The vibrations should be inspected as soon as possible.  It may just be time to rebalance your tires, or you could have tread separation.

Another leading cause is tire abuse.  Over inflating the tire can cause a lot of trouble.  The tire is designed to absorb a lot of the shock from pot holes and bumps.  Hitting a pot hole at near highway speeds can cause a tire to separate in a short amount of time.  Over inflating also causes excess heat build up which wear tread faster.

It’s also important that the tire is prepared correctly before any patches are applied to flat tires.  When getting a flat repaired ask which method is used. Depending on the puncture, you may be better off replacing the tire all together.

All tires have a limited amount of tread life.  Once a tire has reached this point, tread separation is common.  By getting in the habit of checking the pressure at least once a month and checking for abnormal vibrations and bubbles on the tread, you’ll stay safe, save time, money and headaches!

When you’re purchasing new tires, ask about the manufacture warranties and any roadside assistance available!
